Since many of us here seem to be Ulver fans, I'm curious to know what some of the forum members think about early Ulver. I'm not much of a black metal fan myself, but I'd like to hear everyone else's opinion.

For the black metal stuff they are decent. I don't listen to a lot of it, but it does seem a lot of bands I've gotten into are or at least have come from that background. Thus I started listening to some of it. I'm talking about bands like ISIS, Anathema, and many of the post-rock bands. Having said that I much prefer what Ulver are doing now, it just interests me the shift in sound many of these bands made. I love progression.

Hi...I totally Agree with PG..I'm not too much into dark/heavy/etc.. metal but really Ulver always had a particular sound and mood in their music, whatever it is...but for sure the latest works are the most interesting. Same thing happens to Opeth or Anathema I think..

Agreed on Opeth. Though I sense Mikael is a bit careful about keeping his metal fans, I can see them going in the same direction. However unlike the other bands, ie Ulver, I got into Opeth with the heavier stuff. It will be interesting to see how they develop. LOL The question is - will Nosound follow the reverse and end up a black metal band of some sort? j/k

I agree for the most part, but with Opeth, I actually like some of their earlier stuff more (Morningrise is my favorite album) and with Anathema, The Silent Enigma is my secnd favorite album (behind Alternative 4).
